Coffee and Quick Bites in Wailea

1. Akamai Coffee

Akamai serves 100% Maui-grown coffee from their super-mod storefront at Wailea Village. It’s just a short jaunt across the road from Grand Champions. They open bright and early at 6AM, so there’s even time to grab something on your way to an early whale watch tour. Alongside the excellent espresso drinks there’s also a selection of fresh-made avocado toast, croissant sandwiches, yogurt and granola, and pastries.

  • Where: Wailea Village, 116 Wailea Ike Drive
  • Best for: A good coffee early, a light breakfast to go
  • Order: An iced latte or flat white, the ham and cheddar croissant sandwich, banana bread
  • The catch: The shop is small and the line can be 10 minutes or more.
  • Know before you go: Expect a bit of a wait, this place is popular

2. Spoon & Key Market

We started frequenting this spot in its prior incarnation as “The Market” when it was next to Monkeypod. They renamed themselves Spoon & Key and moved down the hill to Wailea Village, near Akamai Coffee. By day it’s a counter-service deli and market with breakfast sandwiches, wraps, bowls and coffee. On some evenings it turns into a sit-down restaurant with a set menu.

We often call in our order from the condo before we head over, as the wait can get long on weekends.

  • Where: Wailea Village, 108 Wailea Ike Drive
  • Best for: A proper breakfast without a resort bill, takeout for the beach
  • Order: The Pig & Egg panini, the breakfast burrito, breakfast hash, an acai bowl
  • The catch: It doesn’t open until 8AM, which might be too late if you’re heading out on an adventure
  • Know before you go: Call ahead: (808) 879-2433 to skip the wait.

3. Island Gourmet Markets

The grocery store at The Shops at Wailea has a hot kitchen counter that turns out the least expensive cooked breakfast in all of Wailea, unless you cook at home of course. It’s also the easiest place to pick up fruit, pastries and coffee for a DIY breakfast on the lanai.

From r/MauiVisitors: “Great grab and go/deli options for breakfast and lunch. Fantastic coffee and good prices.”

  • Where: The Shops at Wailea, a decent walk or short drive from Grand Champions
  • Best for: Budget breakfast, quick groceries for the condo
  • Order: A build-your-own omelette, loco moco, pancakes, corned beef hash
  • The catch: Seating (outdoor) is limited and fills up, plan to get things to go
  • Know before you go: The store opens daily at 6AM but sometimes the kitchen isn’t fired up until 6:30.

Two more coffee stops, if you’re nearby: Island Vintage Coffee at The Shops at Wailea opens at 6AM with a kitchen from 7AM to 2PM, and Kraken Coffee has a cafe at Wailea Gateway Center, open 6AM to 6PM.

Resort Breakfasts Worth the Splurge

Every big Wailea resort runs a breakfast buffet. They’re expensive, and prices change often, so treat the figures below as a guide and confirm when you book. If you’re not staying at the resort, call ahead to check that outside guests are welcome and always ask about parking availability and fees.

4. DUO at the Four Seasons

This is the one resort buffet people seem to talk about the most. It’s a wonderful mash-up of American and Asian breakfasts, with custom omelets made to order and brought to your table. Over and over, guests rave about the baked goods.

From r/MauiVisitors: “It’s pricey but it’s absolutely worth walking down to the Four Seasons breakfast buffet at least once. The food is just so good because of the high quality ingredients they use.”

  • Where: Four Seasons Resort Maui, a short drive from Grand Champions
  • Best for: A once-a-trip splurge
  • Order: The buffet. Order an omelet and leave room for the pastries.
  • The catch: The price is commensurate with the experience: $59 (as of Dec 2025).
  • Know before you go: Breakfast runs daily from 6 to 11AM, buffet or a la carte.

5. Kaʻana Kitchen at the Andaz

Kaʻana Kitchen’s open-air dining room looks out over the Andaz pool scene and sets the stage for a relaxing start to the day. Reviewers love the made-to-order omelets, the bao buns and the pastries. I mean, who doesn’t like pastries when it’s all you can eat? There’s also a selection of amazing fruit juices, mochi waffles, and a few other unusual items you don’t see at your typical resort breakfast buffet.

  • Where: Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort, a short drive from Grand Champions
  • Best for: A buffet with a view at a (slightly) lower price point
  • Order: Made-to-order omelets, bao buns, pastries
  • The catch: Fresh malasadas likely but not guaranteed
  • Know before you go: Breakfast buffet daily from 6:30 to 11AM, $49/adult (kids 5-12 are half price)

6. Kea Lani Restaurant at the Fairmont

The Fairmont’s breakfast setup at Kea Lani looks like it’s out of a magazine. Visually stunning with locally-sourced ingredients and creative dishes like a loco moco made with braised short rib, this one is an easy call if you’re staying at the Fairmont. Go early, eat slowly, and make a morning of it!

  • Where: Fairmont Kea Lani, a short drive from Grand Champions

8. The Restaurant at Hotel Wailea

Hotel Wailea is a small adults-only hotel on the hill above the ocean and offers a quieter alternative to the larger more family-oriented buffet options down along the beach. In keeping with the more intimate vibe, breakfast is served a la carte on a terrace with a long view to the ocean.

From r/MauiVisitors: “Loved Hotel Wailea for breakfast (ricotta pancakes).”

  • Where: Hotel Wailea, a short drive up the hill from Grand Champions
  • Best for: A calm, grown-up breakfast with a view
  • Order: Pancakes, eggs Benedict, loco moco

Worth the Drive: Breakfast in Kihei

Most of Kihei can be accessed within a quick 10-minute drive to the north. This is where you’ll find the more casual restaurants and diners offering large portions and solid value breakfasts. We’ve tried nearly all options and here are our top 3 picks!

9. Kihei Caffe

This is a South Maui breakfast institution. You line up outside, order at the counter, and then find (or wait for) a table on the patio. Portions are large, the menu is huge, and you will not leave here hungry. Amazing pancakes, the freshest smoothies around, and an all-out fantastic way to spend an hour fueling up for a big day of Maui adventures.

From r/MauiVisitors: “Kihei Caffe for loco moco and macadamia nut banana pancakes. Best iced coffee too.”

Diners at outdoor tables under colorful umbrellas at Kihei Caffe in Kalama Village, Kihei, Maui

  • The catch: The line and the traffic noise, you have to order before you sit
  • Know before you go: Open daily 6AM to 2PM, used to be cash only but cards now accepted

10. Nalu’s South Shore Grill

Nalu’s is the wake-up, roll over, and go back to sleep option. It’s one of the very few places on Maui that serves breakfast all day so you can vacation at your own pace. Order at the counter, pick a table inside or out, and prepare to be wowed by Hawaiian classics like Loco Moco ($19) or mainland staples like chicken and waffles ($18). This is our favorite spot for a sit-down breakfast that will keep everyone happy without requiring you to sell part of your stock portfolio to cover the bill.

  • Where: Azeka Shopping Center, 1280 South Kihei Road
  • Best for: A late breakfast, families
  • Order: Loco moco, chicken and waffles, ahi eggs Benedict, kimchi fried rice with Portuguese sausage

Bonus Option #11: Sugar Beach Bake Shop

Do you like malasadas? Have you heard people talk about them but don’t really know what to expect? Just go and pick out a few to see what the fuss is all about. While the island’s very best are only available upcountry Maui at Komoda Store & Bakery, the malasadas at Sugar Beach Bake Shop are much closer to Wailea and almost as tasty. They’re fried hot and filled with fresh island flavors like lilikoi, coconut, and ube. Expect a line outside before the doors open!

  • Where: 61 South Kihei Road, at the far north end of Kihei
  • Best for: Malasadas, a treat on the way to or from the airport

Two more in Kihei worth checking out: Bacon & Blossom, a food truck at South Maui Gardens known for breakfast tacos and chicken and waffles, and Maui Bread Co on South Kihei Road for banana bread and pastries.

What About Monkeypod and Gannon’s?

Two places that often show up on outdated Wailea breakfast lists no longer serve breakfast. Monkeypod Kitchen opens at 11AM now and Gannon’s closed down. Gather on Maui, which replaced Gannon’s at the Wailea Golf Club, also doesn’t open until 11AM.
